Deploying Wireless Across the Enterprise: Mobile Strategies for IT (Location: Lagoon L) Wireless as a technology enables device and user mobility, making anytime/anywhere computing and communications a reality. But that reality is also fraught with challenges: Should we simply duplicate the desktop computing environment, provide remote access to it, or use Web services to provision applications in the field? What wireless technologies are best suited to each approach, and in an optimal strategy even possible given a broad range of applications, users, and continuing technological evolution? This session will review the alternatives for enterprise IT decision makers.
Moderator - Paul DeBeasi, Senior Analyst, Burton Group Paul DeBeasi is a Senior Analyst at the Burton Group and has over 25 years experience in the networking industry. Before joining the Burton Group, Paul founded ClearChoice Advisors, a wireless consulting firm, and was the VP Product Marketing at Legra Systems, a wireless-switch innovator. Prior to Legra, Paul was the VP Product Marketing at startups IPHighway and ONEX Communications and was also the Frame Relay product line manager for Cascade Communications. Paul began his career developing networking systems as a senior engineer at Bell Laboratories, Prime Computer, and Chipcom Corporation. Paul holds a BS degree in Systems Engineering from Boston University and a Master of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University.

As Senior VP of Sales and Marketing, Andy is responsible for international sales and corporate marketing. Speaker - Byron Henderson, VP of Marketing, Mesh Dynamics Byron Henderson has led Product Management, Marketing, and Sales teams in the Networking field for 25 years. He has overseen the development and launch of new technologies in voice and data integration, security, switching, routing, and wireless. Since 2005, Mr. Henderson has been VP of Marketing at MeshDynamics, an innovator in Third-Generation wireless mesh technologies based on highly distributed radio intelligence in a multiple-radio node architecture. In this role, he has helped define new product capabilities to address an emerging enterprise market for this technology. Prior to MeshDynamics, he held a variety of Product Management and Marketing roles at Cisco Systems. Mr. Henderson helped launch Cisco's highly successful Voice-over-IP product lines, both wide area and PBX replacement. His teams were also responsible for product definition, launch, marketing, and technical support of a variety of other technologies from switching to routing to security and 802.11 wireless. Mr. Henderson joined Cisco Systems through the acquisition of StrataCom, a leading voice and data wide area switching manufacturer. Mr. Henderson led a team focused on the definition, development, and deployment of voice integration products for Frame Relay and ATM environments. Mr. Henderson's experience includes Product Management and Marketing executive positions at Fibermux Corporation (later ADC) and MICOM Corporation (later NorTel), as well as product definition, marketing, and product management consulting roles with a variety of networking vendors.
Speaker - Darwin Engwer, WLAN Strategic Technology Architect, Nortel Networks Darwin is a WLAN pioneer, beginning with WLAN technology development in 1994 at Netwave Technologies, which was acquired by Nortel Networks in 1998. Since that time Darwin has led several WLAN development projects at Nortel and is now part of Nortel's Enterprise Technology, Strategy and Architecture Team. His current activities include WLAN research, standards making and product strategies. Darwin has been a regular participant and contributor to the 802.11 standards making process for the past 13 years, with over 50 submissions and direct involvement in the creation of 802.11, 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11d, 802.11e, 802.11F, 802.11g, 802.11h, 802.11i, 802.11j, 802.11k, 802.11r and 802.11ma (802.11-2007) including a role as task group vice-chair. He continues to be involved in 9 active task groups and 3 study groups in 802.11, including the Very High Throughput (Gigabit Wireless) effort. Darwin graduated with honors in Electronic Engineering at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and is the holder of seven patents.
Speaker - Jeff Gilbert, CTO, SiBEAM, Inc. Bringing almost two decades of experience in wireless communications, networking, real-time image and signal processing, and integrated circuit design, Dr. Jeffrey M. Gilbert is responsible for SiBEAM's overall technical vision and core technology research and development. Prior to joining SiBEAM, Dr. Gilbert was the director of algorithms and architecture at Atheros Communications, a developer of wireless semiconductors. During his five year tenure at Atheros, Jeff led the development of Atheros' 802.11n, 802.11g, eXtended Range (XR), and Smart Antenna technologies, and managed the department responsible for the digital signal processing algorithms and various MAC & software algorithms. Prior to joining Atheros, Dr. Gilbert was the director of engineering at the Teratech Corporation, a start-up developing highly portable PC-based medical ultrasound imagers. Dr. Gilbert received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of California Berkeley, M.Phil. in Computer Speech and Language Processing from Cambridge University, and B.A. in Computer Science from Harvard College.

A widely regarded expert, Ms. Johnson regularly speaks at numerous trade shows, conferences, and seminars, and writes an insightful weekly column in Network World. Ms. Johnson relates to the challenges senior executives face, as she?s managed large technology operations. Before founding Nemertes, she served as senior vice president and chief technology officer at Greenwich Technology Partners, a $60 million infrastructure consulting and engineering firm. At GTP, she secured $5 million in funding, managed strategic technology investments, partnerships, and acquisitions, and ran the technology practices to which GTP?s consultants and engineers belonged. She also managed the laboratory services, oversaw training, and performed consulting for strategic clients. Prior to joining GTP, she headed the $12 million Global Networking Strategies Service business unit of META Group, where she advised Global 2000 IT organizations, vendors, and service providers. As senior technology editor of Data Communications magazine, Ms. Johnson managed the lab-testing program, and in the early ?90s was one of the first experts to accurately predict and justify the rise of the commercial Internet. Ms. Johnson also has designed and developed security, speech-synthesis, and free-space laser products at companies including Mosler Security Systems and Digitus Corp. She holds a BSEE (CS) from The Johns Hopkins University, has completed graduate work in nuclear and particle physics at the University of Rochester, speaks three languages, and published a science fiction novel in 1995.

With over 20 years of experience in the telecommunications and wireless industries, Buffmire has extensive experience in wireless and wire line telecom and VoIP. Buffmire has held a number of senior industry leadership positions including Director Business Development and Strategy, Unified Communications Group, Microsoft Corporation and CEO of a hosted VoIP carrier providing service over broadband, WiFi and FTTP. In addition, he was part of the initial development team at Sprint PCS and a key participant in the design, development and execution of the Sprint affiliate program later becoming VP, Business Development and an Executive Officer at UbiquiTel, Inc., (Nasdaq: UPCS) one of the largest Sprint affiliates. Buffmire holds a Masters of Law degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Utah and a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from the University of Southern California.

Speaker - Isabelle Guis, Senior Manager Mobility Solutions, Cisco Systems As a senior manager, Isabelle Guis is responsible for the marketing strategy of Cisco Mobility Solutions with a heavy emphasis on developing marketing activities for Location based Services, Fixed Mobile Convergence (including Unified Communications over WLAN), and Mobility solutions for Healthcare and Manufacturing. Her team drives messaging and tools on products and solutions to help enable sales and partners to promote the vast potential business opportunities offered by Cisco Mobility solutions. Prior to Cisco, Isabelle served at Nortel Networks for seven years in a variety of roles in the Enterprise and Service Provider divisions from R&D engineer, to product line pricing, product manager and product marketing manager. As a senior product marketing manager for Nortel, Isabelle was responsible for the Wireless LAN 2200 series portfolio, which was based on the Airespace architecture that is the foundation of our Unified Wireless Network solution today. She also has strong international wireless experience, having launched 3G technologies in Europe and North America, and was instrumental in the company's involvement in WLAN technologies for both Hot Spots and Enterprises. Isabelle holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Supelec in France and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

He brings more than 16 years of wireless expertise and an extensive track record to the company. Prior to founding Agito, Mr. Roshan was Product Line Manager in the Cisco Systems Wireless Networking Business Unit, responsible for software, security, voice and WLAN management products. Roshan joined Cisco?s Wireless Networking Business Unit just after its acquisition of Aironet in 2000, helping drive Cisco into its wireless market leadership position. Prior to his product role at Cisco, Mr. Roshan spent eight years as a network engineer and architect. Mr. Roshan designed and deployed large-scale networks for companies such as Cisco Systems and Automatic Data Processing (ADP). Mr. Roshan?s accomplishments include participation in the IEEE 802.11 task groups responsible for security (802.11i) and QoS (802.11e); co-authoring the Cisco Press book 802.11 Wireless LAN Fundamentals, published by Cisco Systems in 2004; as well as publishing numerous wireless security and wireless voice white papers. Speaker - Rachna Ahlawat, Vice President, Strategic Marketing, Meru Networks Rachna Ahlawat is the vice president of strategic marketing and a key member of Meru Networks? executive team. A seasoned executive with over 15 years of networking and telecommunications experience, Ms. Ahlawat is responsible for overseeing the company?s communication efforts, development of new strategic markets across the globe, and guiding the product direction for Meru?s industry-leading wireless LAN (WLAN) system. Prior to joining Meru, Ms. Ahlawat was the lead analyst for Wireless LAN at Gartner, Inc. During her tenure with Gartner, Ms. Ahlawat focused on wired and wireless networking technologies, wireless security, management, voice over WLAN and fixed and mobile convergence (FMC). Products in his portfolio also include IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Program Planning, wireless application development, Open access, vendor partner selection, and hosted multi media platforms. Mr. Paczkowski has presented at numerous domestic and foreign IMS conferences as a subject matter expert focusing upon enterprise wireless converged application development. A sixteen year information technologies veteran, Mr. Paczkowski has numerous IMS and wireless telephony patents in filing. He has extensive experience in large scale wireless infrastructure deployments, contact center solutions, application development, and computerized telephony integration (CTI) management. He has been with Sprint for more than eight years, with previous thirteen year experience as a Senior Marketing Manager with Melroe/Ingersoll Rand responsible for the deployment of a national and international market strategy.
Speaker - Manfred Arndt, Distinguished Technologist, Convergence Solutions, ProCurve Networking by HP Manfred Arndt is the Convergence Solutions Architect for ProCurve Networking by HP. He is responsible for specifying and architecting IP telephony and multimedia capabilities in ProCurve?s network equipment and network management applications. He also participates within the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and IEEE subcommittees, helping defining networking and telecommunications standards and is a co-author of the ANSI/TIA-1057 (LLDP-MED) standard. Arndt has more than 20 years of experience as System Architect, Technologist, Software Engineer and R&D Software Development Manager in several networking startups and the high-tech industry. Before joining ProCurve, he led the development of a pre-standard WiMAX broadband wireless access system, which included advanced QoS and scheduling algorithms to support business grade VoIP and video conferencing. At Fluke Networks, he architected and developed various network diagnostic products, including a 10/100/Gigabit integrated network analyzer that combined advanced network discovery, SNMP analysis, RMON2 monitoring and a high-performance protocol analyzer. Arndt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He also holds three networking patents.
